Back Bends extend and expand the interior portion of the spinal vertebrae. They require sensitivity, intelligence and proper preparation. They take us into the “unseen” back part of our body – into our “unknown” core. They are physically and emotionally energizing, generating heat in the body and bringing emotional strength and stability. Back bends are effective in warding-off depression and distress.

Philosophy Theme: Yoga Sutra: 2.42 santosha anuttamah sukha-labhah “From contentment, the highest happiness is attained.”
