Levels: II – IV

Back Bends extend and expand the interior portion of the spinal vertebrae. They require sensitivity, intelligence and proper preparation. They take us into the “unseen” back part of our body – into our “unknown” core. They are physically and emotionally energizing, generating heat in the body and bringing emotional strength and stability. Back bends are effective in warding-off depression and distress.

Philosophy Theme: Yoga Sutra: 1.34 Pracchardana-Vidharanabhyam-Va-Pranasya “Stability of mind is gained by exhaling and retaining the breath.”
